These companies experience a sharp rise in orders during events like the Great Indian Festival (Amazon) and Big Billion Days (Flipkart), necessitating massive storage spaces for quick dispatches and last-mile deliveries.
Retailers: Offline and online retailers alike see a huge jump in their inventory requirements during Diwali. Companies in sectors like fashion, electronics, home decor, and appliances are key players using warehouse facilities to store and manage their festive stockpiles.
FMCG and Consumer Durables: Fast-moving consumer goods and consumer durable companies also expand their storage capacity to accommodate the increased demand for their products during the festive season. Warehouses storing essentials like packaged foods, beverages, and electronics see high utilisation.
Manufacturers and wholesalers: Festive time prompts manufacturers and wholesalers to ramp up their stock in warehouses to meet the heightened demand from retailers and consumers.
How can warehouses maximise opportunities
Increase Capacity: To prepare for the surge in demand, it's essential to optimise and expand storage capacity. This can be done by renting additional warehouse space temporarily or adopting a multi-client warehouse model to manage multiple customers under the same roof.
Invest in Technology: Warehouse management systems (WMS) play a crucial role in streamlining operations during peak seasons. Automated systems can help reduce errors in inventory management, improve picking and packing times, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Focus on Logistics Integration: Close collaboration with logistics providers is key to ensuring smooth last-mile deliveries. Festive sales often promise "same-day" or "next-day" delivery options, which require strong integration between warehouses and transport services.
Seasonal Staffing: Hire temporary workers or partner with staffing agencies to manage the increased labor demands. An adequately staffed warehouse ensures quick order processing, picking, and shipping during high-demand periods.
